Cllr Mark Wall has welcomed the news that Kildare County Council will investigate the possibility of putting right turning lanes on the Carlow road in Athy as part of a programme of works for that part of the town.
Speaking following the recent Athy Area Committee meeting, Cllr Wall learned that the area office considers that the space is there for such turnings and that they will undergo a series of investigations into the amount of traffic using the road and in particular turning into the housing estates on the road. This follows Cllr Walls previous motion in relation to the footpath between this section of road and the new Ardreigh road, where he was informed that the Council have spoken with Residents on the road and that they will favourably consider completing the footpath at this location.
There is an opportunity in this area with the opening of the Ardreigh Road to complete and upgrade this section of road and I am delighted to get such a positive response from the Council. Ensuring that this road is upgraded with increased safety measures such as turning lanes and resurfacing will be welcomed by all the Residents along the road, with the positive news that the Council are actively pursuing the completion of the footpath, these works will increase pedestrian and vehicular safety for everybody, concluded Cllr Wall
