Speaking at a joint meeting of Athy Town Council and Athy Area Committee on the Southern Distributor Road, Cllr Mark Wall welcomed the cost benefit analysis that has being prepared by Kildare County Council and will be presented to the Minister for Transport by the end of the week.
In reply to questions from Cllr Wall, officials at the meeting, confirmed that the costing on the road would still be €42 million and that they had included the unacceptable and continuing delays from the Kilkenny road and indeed other areas of the town in the plan and the affects these delays are having on the life of the town.
” The Southern Distributor Road remains the number one piece of infrastructure in the County, it is essential to the economic and social life of the town and its residents. We were informed today that Kildare County Council is expecting a decision on the road by February of next year, a decision that may involve a phased based build of the road. Whatever way this road can be delivered and in the quickest possible time must be a priority for everybody involved in this project for the sake of the future of our town”
