Cllr Mark Wall has welcomed the news that Kildare County Council have revised the cost of the much need Southern Distributor Route for Athy ,down from an original cost of €42 Million to a new costing of €34.27 million.
Speaking following the issuing of a cost benefit analysis to the NRA by Kildare County Council, Cllr Wall welcomed the reduction in the proposed costing due to proposed reductions in the land cost and construction costs. The Council in their letter has sought the go ahead on the project, to be built in phases, a decision on which is due in the coming weeks.
Cllr Wall concluded by stating that the “SDR remains the most important piece of infrastructure in County Kildare, the traffic delays in the town continue to grow, especially coming in from the Kilkenny road side of the town, their was unanimous agreement from all Cllrs at a recent joint meeting of Athy Town Council and Athy Area Committee of Kildare County Council that we must support this cost benefit analysis and we must now get a positive decision from the NRA and the Government, the future of Athy is dependant on the development of this road .
