Work continues on Ballitore Chimney problems

Cllr Mark Wall has welcomed the news that Kildare County Council has fitted 40 new fire fronts to their houses in the Millview estate in Ballitore, following the recent problems with chimney fires and ventilation.

Speaking following a reply to his motion at the Athy area meeting of Kildare County Council, Cllr Wall thanked the Council for their work on the project and welcomed the news that work is still ongoing in relation to ventilation on the 17 single story houses within the estate. The reply also confirmed that the Council have carried out detailed tests on the chimney flues within the estate and are to carry out further tests on the Chimney pots themselves.

Commenting on the reply Cllr Wall stated “It is very important to note the contribution of the special Residents committee set up following meetings with the four area Cllrs in relation to progressing this important matter. The Council has provided financial and technical support in reaching this point, where the Residents feel that progress has being made. There are still a number of issues to be tested and acted upon, but the support of the Council has to be acknowledged and I hope that the forthcoming meeting of the special committee will see further resolution to a problem that caused upset and worry within the estate. Thankfully the work completed to date seems to have improved what was an unacceptable situation for everybody within the estate”, concluded Cllr Wall
