Responses to Motions at Athy Area Committee – April Meeting

Athy Area Committee Meeting

Held at 10.15 a.m. on Monday, 23 April 2012

In the Municipal Buildings, Rathstewart, Athy

 

Members Present: Councillor M. Wall (Cathaoirleach),CouncillorsI. Keatley, M.Miley and Mayor M. Nolan.

 

Also Present:           J. Boland, (Area Manager),S. Kavanagh, (Senior Executive Officer),

D. O’Flaherty, (Area Engineer), A. Aspell, (Meetings Administrator), and

A. Murphy, (Committee Secretary).

 

Apologies:                Councillor R. Daly.

 

The members complimented all involved in the work done on clearing the backlog of public lighting repairs in the Athy area. Councillor Wall still had some concerns regarding a number of outstanding repairs.

Flooding – Kilberry, Athy

The committee considered the following motion in the name of Councillor Wall:

That the council alleviate the flooding problem at Kilberry, Athy.

The administrator read a report from the transportation department, dated 19 April, 2012 stating that this work would be carried out in the next few months as part of a drainage scheme on either side of Coke Lane, Kilberry.

The report was noted.

Road Resurfacing – Kilberry, Athy

The committee considered the following question in the name of Councillor Wall:

Can the council confirm the up to date position in relation to road resurfacing at Kilberry, Athy?

The administrator read a report from the transportation department, dated 19 April 2012, stating that this work would be carried out in the coming months as part of the Restoration Improvement Grants for 2012.

The report was noted.

Proposed Footpath – Carlow Road, Athy

The committee considered the following question in the name of Councillor Wall:

Can the council confirm the up to date position in relation to the proposed footpath atCarlow Road, Athy?

The administrator read a report from the transportation department, dated 19 April 2012, stating that the council was awaiting agreements with landowners to progress this work. The members raised concerns in relation to funding for this project, and queried the amount of development levies collected by Athy Town Council, for the housing development at this location. The committee requested a breakdown of how the levies were spent, as basic infrastructure had not been put in place at this location. It was agreed that a letter be issued to Athy Town Council seeking this information.

Resolved: that a letter issue to Athy Town Council regarding a breakdown of levies collected, and how they were spent.

Standard of Road – Dowdenstown, Ballymore Eustace

The committee considered the following question in the name of Councillor Wall:

Can the council bring the road at Dowdenstown, Ballymore Eustace up to a proper standard?

The administrator read a report from the transportation department, dated 19 April 2012, stating that routine maintenance and remedial patching on this road would continue on an ongoing basis subject to budgetary and personnel constraints. However, there was no funding available in this year’s budget allocation to undertake resurfacing works on this road.

The members were unhappy with the response received, and requested that both the Naas area engineer, and the Kildare area engineer, attend the next committee meeting regarding a number of road issues the councillor’s wish to raise. Ms. Kavanagh agreed to follow up with the area engineers to check their availability for the May meeting of the committee.

Resolved: that the Naas and Kildare area engineers attend the next committee meeting.
