Following a Presentation to the Members of the Athy Municipal District on Wednesday 4th November by Kildare County Council Officials and the Consultants for the Project, Roughan O’Donovan, the following is the update on the Athy SDR.
Following a comprehensive traffic Survey completed in April of this year and work completed on this study throughout the Summer, up to three options have being identified for the possibility of an outer relief road for Athy. These potential routes can be viewed by the Public on an Open day in the Municipal District Office (Former Town Council Office) on Wednesday 25th November from 2pm to 10pm.
In order to comply with Planning guidelines and secure planning permission for this essential road, a number of routes must be considered before making a final decision on the preferred route. This decision will have to include the findings of the traffic survey, a cost benefit analysis on the route options, various environmental studies, as well as public consultation.
The Consultants gave indicative times for the completion of the road which are of course dependant on all stages being completed and essentially planning permission being secured through an Bord Pleanala.
This indicative dates include:
Q2 2016 Draft Route Selected
Q4 2016 CPO (Compulsory Purchase Order) + EIS (Environmental Impact Study)
Q2 2017 Oral Hearing through Bord Pleanala on the route selected
Q4 2017 Bord Pleanala Decision
Q2 2018 Road to Commence
Q3 2020 Road to Open
During these various stages , Kildare County Council and the Consultants will continue to work on progressing the road including all the preparation needed for a Planning Application.
