Cllr Mark Wall has tabled a further motion to Kildare County Council on the continued need for Social Housing in South Kildare . In my recent canvassing and on a daily basis , housing and its need continues to dominate my representations. On Friday I met with senior officials of the Council about the urgent need for social housing in Kilcullen given the number of representations that I have received and the number that I am working on for that area. This need is increased by recent visits and canvassing in Athy and Kildare Town where housing was one of the biggest issues at the door steps .
I have in the past welcomed the money allocated by the Government to assist this urgent issue but we must also think outside the box on how we can provide family homes now . We saw what could be achieved in Coneyboro Athy where 43 units were delivered working with an unfinished estate. I welcome the fact that through the work of officials of Kildare County Council and recent motions I tabled , negotiations are at an advanced stage to take over some homes by the Council in Castledermot under very similar circumstances.
However it seems to me that the Voluntary housing sector have the money to compliment those houses bought by Council and I look forward to the reply that I will receive to my motion. Of course we must also get back to building Council housing stock and this must happen urgently , in the meantime all other possibilities must be investigated.
Under is copy of motion to Athy Area Committee
That the Council confirm the number of voluntary housing associations that they are working within the Athy area and throughout the county, and whether the Council is in negotiations with any of these voluntary bodies to build houses in the Athy area or indeed to further enter into lease agreements with them to secure social housing.
