Cllr Mark Wall welcomed confirmation from Kildare County Council that they were examining a variation of the C route very carefully following hundreds of submissions during the recent public consultation on the proposed road.
Cllr Wall was speaking following today’s Athy Municipal District meeting where the Senior Engineer for roads for County Kildare, confirmed that he was very impressed by the quality of the submissions which had raised some seriously good points on the roads location. The official also confirmed following questioning from Cllr Wall and the other members present, that protecting the sports fields was being very seriously considered and that the the vast majority of submissions had requested the Council to do so.
Cllr Wall once again impressed on the Council the need for an extended and complete further public consultation once the preferred route emerged and the Senior Engineer confirmed that this public consultation was still on target for the end of February . Cllr Wall once again brought up the opportunity this road could provide for the town with the provision of cycle and walking routes, which the Senior Engineer acknowledged would form part of the roads provision.
Concluding his remarks as Cathaoirleach , Cllr Wall thanked the official for his positive responses to the members particularly in relation to protecting the Sports fields and once again impressed on him the town’s need for these sports fields, while providing this much needed road for Athy
