February update on Athy’s new road

We received the following update regarding the much needed Southern Distributor road at our Council meeting yesterday.

€3million has being allocated to the road this year which will ensure all work this year will be completed .

As you all may be aware a preliminary contract has already started along the Kilkenny road end of the town, which will include a new culvert for the stream in Corran Ard , boundary walls and site works. The issue with the abandonment of the railway now has board approval from CIE and it was stated that this issue is now moving along the correct channels to ensure that there will be no problem. Following further questions today , council have confirmed once again that the road is on target and will be completed in the timelines we were previously given, which is all we really want to hear.
